Red Sonja Vol.1 Queen of Plagues

Shadowhawk and Bane of Kings welcome you to the first comics round-up for February.

“A mix of Marvel comics here, with All-New Invaders not being quite up to par but the latest chapter of Revolutionary War is indeed quite impressive. ~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

Scott Lobdell misfires yet again with Teen Titans, proving that this series is deserving of its cancellation whilst Gail Simone works wonders with the first Volume of  Red Sonja.” ~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields

Prisoner_of_the_Floating_World_TPB

After a month-and-a-half long break, Shadowhawk and Bane of Kings welcome you to the first comics round-up for December, and the penultimate one for the year.

“For a change, this was a fairly good crop of stories, whether it is the always amazing Paul Dini’s Zatanna or the other supernatural of DCU with Dan DiDio’s Phantom Stranger, which turned out to be fairly decent, especially once J. M. DeMatteis stepped in for scripting duties. ” ~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

“Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files delivers a solid standalone graphic novel, whilst Brian Wood impresses with Mara. Over at Zenescope, Robyn Hood: Wanted is entertaining and fun whilst Corinna Beckho impresses with the first volume of the second Star Wars: Legacy series, set 138 years after the events of Star Wars: A New Hope.” ” ~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields

Punisher - The Trial Of The Punisher 01

Shadowhawk and Bane of Kings welcome you to the second comics round-up for October.

“In an effort to read more Marvel, I picked up a bunch of new titles, plus one of the few ongoing series I’m following right now and have to say that the experience has been largely negative. Both the new Captain America and Spider-Man comics have proven to be duds with the first issue while the new Punisher comic was half-decent at a stretch.” ~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

Judge Dredd: Year One provides a great look into the early years of the character whilst the first volume of Grimm provides a nice adaption set in the world of the NBC series that you can enjoy whether or not you’re a fan.” ~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields

Comics Round-up 01.09.2013

Batgirl 23

Shadowhawk and Bane of Kings welcome you to the first comics round-up for September.

“After two fairly good story arcs, Justice League Dark heads downhill with the addition of writer Ray Fawkes even as JMS’ second installment of Wonder Woman: Odyssey impresses as much as the first. Greg Rucka continues to impress as usual with the second and third issues of his creator-owned project with Image, and I dip back into the Marvel Now universe with Young Avengers with a somewhat tepid first arc.” ~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

An awesome new arc for Batgirl gets underway, Captain America reaches its penultimate issue in Dimension Z, and Chris Roberson’s Masks delivers an impressive but flawed union of Dynamite Comic’s strongest heroes.~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields

Before Watchmen Minutemen Silk Spectre

Shadowhawk and Bane of Kings welcome you to the first round-up for August.

“The rebooted Aphrodite IX proves to be great while the first two issues of musician Max Bemis’ Polarity from Boom Studios manage to astound spectacularly. And back in superhero-land, Greg Pak’s first two issues of Batman/Superman disappoint like none other, even though Ray Fawkes’ Trinity War tie-in second issue of Pandora proves to be a spectacular issue.” ~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

“Before Watchmen manages to both excel and disappoint, whilst Scott Snyder excels in the Pre-New 52 era, and Green Hornet Year One is a much better origin story for the character than the recent film.” ~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields

Red Sonja #1 by Gail Simone – Friday Flash Review [Shadowhawk]

Red Sonja v2 01

Shadowhawk takes a look at the first issue of the rebooted Red Sonja as the TFF Friday Comics Reviews finally get a name-branding.

“This is exactly the sort of first issue I was looking for and I can say with full confidence that Gail Simone is off to a rocking start!” ~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

Immortal Iron Fist Volume 1

Shadowhawk and Bane of Kings welcome you to the first comics round-up for July.

“My first experience with Greg Rucka proves to be a smash hit as he tells a really focused story about the most famous X-Men team member ever. Scott Beatty’s The Last Phantom is flawed but still tells quite a story. Geoff Johns concludes the Throne of Atlantis crossover and instantly launches into an even better series event with King of Atlantis which is full of startling revelations. Scott Snyder’s Batman progresses after the epic Death of the Family crossover with a small-focus 2-parter with a classic Batman villain and then launches into the series event Year Zero which is one of the best stories in the series to date. “~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

Astonishing X-Men is a series that all X-fans should read, and The Immortal Iron Fist is another classic.~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields
