MEFCC – The Guest List
In the third feature post about the 2nd Middle East Film & Comic Con, Shadowhawk takes a look at some of the attending guests.
“Star line-up. That about sums it up for what promises to be an amazing weekend!” ~Shadowhawk
Last year was the inaugural year of the Middle East Film & Comic Con, and the response to the event was amazing. Statistics say that over 13,000 people attended from all over the Middle East-North Africa and other countries for the event. The show was such a resounding success, owing in no small part to the fact that some of the international guests included the likes of Jason Momoa (Stargate Atlantis, Game of Thrones), John Rhys-Davies (The Lord of the Rings, Shogun), Mark Sheppard (Battlestar Galactica, Leverage), Lucianna Carro (Battlestar Galactica, Supernatural), and Laurie Holden (The Walking Dead). Now that’s a tremendous start to a show!
This year’s line-up of guests is even more stellar, and I do not say that idly. The stars they are getting this time are just as big-time folks as last year’s, and it is amazing to see them all come here and be a part of the geek life in the Middle East.
Without further ado, here are some of the people attending.
Alan Tudyk
You know him as Sonny from I, Robot and Wash from Firefly and Wat from A Knight’s Tale. He is an actor that I love to see on the big screen and I’m hoping to snag a picture of him at the event!
Sean Astin
Most famous for his role as Samwise “Sam” Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, did you also know that he is a producer and director as well? Amazing stuff.
Alodia Gosiengfiao
Possibly THE most famous cosplayer gamer from Asia. First came across her in last year’s MEFCC and I’ve been a fan of her work since. I just might be able to get an interview with her at the event! My fingers are crossed!
Manu Bennett
Quite possibly he is my most favourite actor on television right now, alongside his co-star Stephen Ammell on Arrow. He is the star of Spartacus (Crixus) and Arrow (Slade Wilson!), and he was Azog in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. That last is as cool as Ray Park (Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode I) being Snake Eyes in the two G.I.Joe movies. If there is one celebrity at MEFCC I’d love to get a picture with this year, Manu Bennett is the one!
*****
I will be at the event all day Saturday, and I’m really looking forward to it. Last year was an absolute blast, as you can read here. I would love to go tomorrow, but it is a work day for me unfortunately, so I can’t [Dubai has Friday and Saturday as weekends, not Saturday and Sunday, since Friday is the Islamic holy day of the week].
I also have two other MEFCC feature posts up on TFF: An interview with current Witchblade writer Tim Seeley, and an interview with the creators of Kill Shakespeare.
