X-Men: Battle of the Atom Part 2 – A Marvel Comics Event Review [Bane of Kings/Shadowhawk]

X-Men - Battle of the Atom 02

Bane of Kings and Shadowhawk take a look at the second month of Marvel’s one of two ongoing events, celebrating 50 years of X-Men comics.

Whilst Battle of the Atom may have started out strong, it rapidly goes downhill and ends up being a disappointing mess that could have been pulled off so much better. Best Avoided.~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields

“After the strong start in September, the October issues for the event can only be summed up as heroes fighting each other just for the hell of it because why not, its all just cool right?” ~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

X-Men: Battle of the Atom Part 1 – A Marvel Comics Event Review [Bane of Kings/Shadowhawk]

Battle of the Atom 01

Bane of Kings and Shadowhawk take a look at the first month of Marvel’s one of two ongoing events, celebrating 50 years of X-Men comics.

Battle of the Atom so far is an event with an absolutely awesome premise and some killer artwork, yet it finds itself let down by the fact that it feels like it’s being dragged out over too many books” ~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields

“As with DC’s Trinity War, Marvel’s X-Men: Battle of the Atom is my first taste of reading a major event unfold on a week-by-week basis, and I’m definitely loving it. I’m coming in without any previous comics knowledge, and yet the story is very approachable, which is great.” ~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

Comics Round-up 01.07.2013

Immortal Iron Fist Volume 1

Shadowhawk and Bane of Kings welcome you to the first comics round-up for July.

“My first experience with Greg Rucka proves to be a smash hit as he tells a really focused story about the most famous X-Men team member ever. Scott Beatty’s The Last Phantom is flawed but still tells quite a story. Geoff Johns concludes the Throne of Atlantis crossover and instantly launches into an even better series event with King of Atlantis which is full of startling revelations. Scott Snyder’s Batman progresses after the epic Death of the Family crossover with a small-focus 2-parter with a classic Batman villain and then launches into the series event Year Zero which is one of the best stories in the series to date. “~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

Astonishing X-Men is a series that all X-fans should read, and The Immortal Iron Fist is another classic. ~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields

Comics Round-up 01.06.2013

Earth 2 Annual 2013

Shadowhawk and Bane of Kings welcome you to the first comics round-up for June.

Demon Reborn is a below-par Witchblade title from Dynamite that just fails to ever get going. Bill Willingham’s Fairest, a Fables spin-off, has a bit of a rough start but gets better with each issue. Geoff Johns’ Justice League of America continues to impress but still has a fair few flaws that prevent it from becoming a top title. And Brian Wood’s ongoing Star Wars is just superb with excellent characterisation and dialogue.” ~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

Batman: Earth 2 Annual #1 provides a misleading first outing for the new caped crusader while Nightwing impresses. Thanos Rising is comparable to Star Wars, and, Wolverine and the X-Men seems set to be one of the weirdest Marvel comics currently ongoing. ~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields

Shadowhawk, Bane of Kings, Bellarius and Lord of the Night welcome you to the second comics round-up for March.

“Unusually, its all graphic novels this month for the most part and once again, the experience has been across the spectrum. The shining lights this month have been DC’s Huntress and Green lantern.” ~Shadowhawk

The Death of the Family is one of the greatest Batman tales ever written, and Paul Cornell’s Wolverine gets off to a solid start.” ~Bane of Kings

“Probably the only comic in which you want to see more people and less fire breathing lizards.” ~Bellarius

Hirano’s latest work is everything we’ve come to associate him with. Immensely gory violence, over-the-top in a good way characters and absurdly hilarious moments that abruptly switch back to unrelenting carnage. What fan of his would have it any other way??” ~Lord of the Night
