Milo, aka “Bane of Kings,” covers the Top 5 Must Read Comics For Wednesday 29 January 2014, featuring books from Dark Horse, DC, & Image!
It’s an excellent week for comics this week. The big talking point will of course be Serenity: Leaves on the Wind as the majority of us who have seen Firefly and Serenity cannot wait for something that’s as close as a Season 3 (including the movie as Season 2) or a second movie as we’re going to get. Let’s hope that it can live up to the expectations – the advance reviews seem to be saying so, after all. Also, there’s Black Science, Remender’s best New Series, and several more from both DC, Image and Dark Horse. It’s a great week to be a comics fan. Here are the full releases for this week’s comics, and you can find out what’s on my full pull-list here (I’m also picking up a bunch of Marvel releases from last week as well as Unwritten Vol.2 #1). Without further ado, let’s get on with the show.
Story: Rick Remender | Art: Matteo Scalero, Dean White | Cover: Matteo Scalero, Dean White | Publisher: Image Comics | Price: $3.50
Shell-shocked and battered, Grant McKay and his team are stranded on the front lines of the European savages’ final standoff against the Sons of the Wakan Tech-Tanka. Will this inverse manifest destiny claim the life of a member of the Anarchist League of Scientists? Or will they be betrayed by one of their own?
Remender’s best work yet. Deadly Class may have got off to an excellent start but I can’t wait to see where he takes this series and this is a strong contender to challenge Serenity: Leaves on the Wind for Pick of the Week but we shall see. Regardless – I’ve loved the series so far and cannot wait for more.
Story: Toby Litt | Art: Mark Buckingham | Cover: Mark Buckingham | Publisher: Vertigo Comics | Price: $2.99
From the pages of THE SANDMAN! Neil Gaiman’s intrepid dead schoolboys head back to the horror that is St. Hilarions School; the place where they both were murdered. While trying to protect their new acquaintance, techno-savvy sleuth Crystal, from suffering the same fate at the hands of familiar bullies, Charles and Edwin begin to unravel the mysteries surrounding their own untimely demise.

There’s a new gang in town as The Red Lanterns come to Earth! How will the rest of the universe react to the Reds’ policing their new ‘jurisdiction’? And more important, how will Ice react when Guy Gardner comes a-courtin’? The cover’s a big hint!
The best Green Lantern book currently on shelves at the moment continues with Guy Gardner kicking ass. Looking forward to seeing how this one plays out and I’ve started to really enjoy this series after I jumped on with 25 so I’m hoping for more great things from this fun and awesome book.
Story: Zack Whedon | Art: Georges Jeanty | Cover: Laura Martin | Publisher: Dark Horse Comics | Price: $3.50
Malcolm Reynolds’s crew shook the ‘verse to its core when they laid bare the crimes against humanity undertaken by their sinister government-the Alliance. Always outlaws, Mal, a very pregnant Zoe, new pilot River Tam, and the other surviving crew members are in greater danger than ever. Meanwhile, everyone is asking the same question . . .
Firefly is my favourite TV Show of all time and any new comic series focusing on the crew of Serenity I’m totally down for, especially as this picks up from the fallout of the Serenity movie – so is something that should be very awesome to see how it unfolds. Shame it’s only a mini-series though -would have loved an ongoing, but at this point I will take anything new Firefly related.
Story: Ron Marz | Art: Laura Braga, Betsy Gonia | Cover: Stjepan Sejic | Publisher: Image Comics | Price: $2.99
Sara Pezzini will soon discover who the Witchblade chose to be its next bearer.
More Witchblade awesomeness looks set to come forward in this issue and I’ve been enjoying this series recently so here’s hoping for even greater things on the horizon. Marz is a great writer so hopefully this should be very strong indeed.
