Batgirl Vol. 3: Death of the Family by Gail Simone & Ray Fawkes – Graphic Novel Review [Bane of Kings]

Batgirl Vol. 3

Milo, aka “Bane of Kings”, writes a review of the third Volume of DC’s New 52 Batgirl series, written mainly by Gail Simone. If you haven’t read Batman Vol. 3 and Batman Incorporated Vol. 2 (or at least know of the events that happen in the series unless you want to skip #18 ) I wouldn’t recommend reading this book until you have caught up.

An excellent collection that continues one of the best DC series out there - Batgirl ties in very well with the Death of the Family arc as well as strongly progressing with the James Gordon Jr. arc – making this a must read for any Batgirl fan.” ~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields

Comics Round-up 01.09.2013

Batgirl 23

Shadowhawk and Bane of Kings welcome you to the first comics round-up for September.

“After two fairly good story arcs, Justice League Dark heads downhill with the addition of writer Ray Fawkes even as JMS’ second installment of Wonder Woman: Odyssey impresses as much as the first. Greg Rucka continues to impress as usual with the second and third issues of his creator-owned project with Image, and I dip back into the Marvel Now universe with Young Avengers with a somewhat tepid first arc.” ~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

An awesome new arc for Batgirl gets underway, Captain America reaches its penultimate issue in Dimension Z, and Chris Roberson’s Masks delivers an impressive but flawed union of Dynamite Comic’s strongest heroes. ~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields

American Vampire Anthology #1 – Friday Flash Review [Shadowhawk/Bane of Kings]

American Vampire Anthology 01

Shadowhawk and Bane of Kings review the first anthology issue set in Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque’s American Vampire series from Vertigo Comics.

“Scary, creepy vampires plus some of the best writers in comics right now. This is a fantastic mix of story and talent!” ~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

An excellent anthology showcasing the best of what comics has to offer. Absolutely loved it. A must read whether you’ve read the original American Vampire series or not, American Vampire Anthology #1 is not only Pick of the Week, but Pick of the Month, and a very strong contender for Pick of the Year ~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields

Pandora 01

Shadowhawk and Bane of Kings review the first issue of the new Pandora series from DC, being released as part of its Trinity War crossover event.

“Quite a promising issue but has a few flaws within the context of an origin story and references to Greek mythology.” ~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

“An interesting issue that will keep me around for #2 but does not deliver on all elements of its intriguing premise.” ~Bane of Kings, The Founding Fields
