IDW Wins Big At 2013 Eisners!

Shadowhawk takes a look at IDW’s big news from the 2013 Eisners.

“IDW’s diversity gains a few more notches and this is a great thing for the creators behind these projects, and for the industry as well.” ~Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields

This past weekend the latest edition of the comics industry’s highest honour, the 2013 Eisner Awards, was held at San Diego Comic Con. Celebrating the best of the industry across numerous categories, the Eisners have been around for a long time and they mark a seminal moment, just to be nominated, from everything that I’ve seen in the last year and a half. I will be blogging about the new Eisners quite soon, once I get all my thoughts for it in order, but in the meantime, here’s one of IDW Publishing’s press releases over the weekend, in which they talk about their wins at the event.

I haven’t read any of the winning titles, since they aren’t to my tastes, but it is great to see that independent publishers can be so successful, especially when in the shadow of the Big 2 and having to compete with the immense popularity of the regular old superhero comics.

Record-Breaking Year Continues For IDW At The 2013 Eisner Awards

IDW publishing awarded 3 top honors

San Diego, CA (July 20, 2013) – The 2013 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards have just concluded and IDW is honored to be the recipient of 3 awards from the industry’s prestigious ceremony. All 9 nominations IDW received highlighted the publisher’s diverse line, and the winner’s exemplified IDW’s commitment to the high standards that the Eisner awards celebrate.

Earning his fifth Eisner with IDW, Darwyn Cooke received the award Best Adaptation From Another Medium, an award that was re-introduced this year, for his knockout graphic novel, Parker: The Score. The critical hit was Cooke’s third volume in the Parker series, adapted from Richard Stark’s original novel, of the same name. His other adaptations, The Hunter and The Outfit, were both Eisner award winners as well.

For his stylish and thematic art that flew off the page of Rocketeer: Cargo of Doom, Chris Samnee won his first Eisner award! Acclaimed across the board, the ace artist won for Best Penciller/Inker.

Congratulations to all the nominees and winners and thanks to the judges at this year’s Eisner awards, see you next year!
