Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Secret History of the Foot Clan by Mateus Santolouco [djinn24]

djinn24 reviews the upcoming graphic novel by IDW Publishing, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Secret History of the Foot Clan, publishing on June 25th, 2013.

As a turtle fan from way back I loved this book, we need more! ~ The Founding Fields

For those of you who are not familiar with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, they are four anthropomorphic turtles who are trained by an anthropomorphic rat in the arts of ninjutsu and named after four renaissance artists. The turtles, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael with the help of April O’Neil, and Casey Jones learn of a college professor who has uncovered some secret text of the ancient Foot Clan. Now they are in a race against Shredder and his minions to the professor. This book happens about equally in ancient Japan where you get to learn the origins of the Foot Clan and in modern day New York. What will be learned in the ancient text?

The various series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle are quickly approaching its 30th anniversary, originally published in May of 1984. Over the years there have been several different publishers and writers for this series, varied from the dark edged origins of Eastman and Laird’s to the lighter and witty series published by Archie comics. As an old school fan of the Turtles I found this book to be very enjoyable as you get a peak into how the Foot Clan came to be. This series of books, published by IDW Publishing, is probably my favorite since the mid 90’s, it manages to capture the good of most of the previous series and rolls them together.

I give this book an 8/10, it weighs in around 85 pages so it is a lengthy read that has a lot of good information for new and old fans of the series. This is a republish of an a 4 part series published from January through March 2013.
