Black Library Cover Art [Part Two]

blacklibrarylogo

A few days ago, I put up the first part of a cover-art post showcasing the best of Black Library’s most recent cover art. Well, as promised, here’s part two. This time, I’m looking at the following: The Primarchs edited by Christian Dunn, Bloodsworn by Nathan Long, The Emperor’s Gift by Aaron Dembski-Bowden Wrath of Iron by Chris Wraight and Malediction by C.Z. Dunn. Enjoy, and remember, what’s your favourite cover art?

First up, we look at the most recent Horus Heresy Cover Art, the one for The Primarchs, released in June 2012, edited by Christian Dunn and is a collection of short stories about the Primarchs of the Space Marine Legions themselves.  This is one that I’m not that fond of, mainly because It looks like some sort of manga type cover. Have a look for yourself, though, and tell me what you think:

THE STORY

Created in the Emperor’s own image, the primarchs had long thought themselves to be princes of the universe and masters of their own destiny – they led the Space Marine Legions in glorious conquest of the galaxy, and no enemy of the Imperium could stand against them. However, even amongst this legendary brotherhood, the seeds of dissent had been sown long before the treacherous Warmaster Horus declared his grand heresy.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Gathered within this anthology are four novellas focusing on some of the mightiest warriors and leaders that mankind has ever known – Fulgrim, Lion El’Johnson, Ferrus Manus and Konrad Curze – and the roles that they may have yet to play in a war which threatens to change the face of the Imperium forever.

Next up is the first Fantasy Cover Art of the day, the amazing Bloodsworn by Nathan Long, which is the third in the Ulrika the Vampire series. Nathan Long himself reckons it’s the best cover yet, and I agree with him. Do you? Unfortunately, I don’t have a synopsis for this, but it is released in June 2012. Without further ado, here’s the picture:

Following on from Bloodsworn, we have a cover of Aaron Dembski-Bowden’s upcoming Grey Knight novel, The Emperor’s Gift, to be released in June 2012 and looks as though it’s going to be one hell of a read, if past experience is anything to go by. Judging by the price, it’s a hardback, but that won’t stop me from enjoying it, hopefully. No summary for you I’m afraid, but have a look at the cover-art instead:

Following on from The Emperor’s Gift, we have Wrath of Iron by Chris Wraight, a Space Marine Battles Novel focusing on the Iron Hands and has a publishing date of July next year. This time, there is a summary for you:

After decades spent in the service of the Chaos god Slaanesh, the ruling classes of the Contqual sub-sector have finally brought true damnation upon their people – innumerable hordes of foul and lascivious daemons swarm from a tear in the fabric of reality to embrace their mortal pawns and drive them on to ever more depraved acts of worship. It falls to the merciless Space Marines of the Iron Hands Chapter to cleanse these worlds of the warp’s unholy taint, and it is upon the surface of Shardenus that the fate of a billion lost souls will be decided.

And finally, we have Malediction, an audio-drama, with an expected release of  August 2012 and written by C.Z. Dunn, (Christian Dunn), and the man responsible for the artwork behind this is Cheoljoo Lee, who works on the covers for the Warhammer Heroes series as well as the Salamanders Novels by Nick Kyme. The story focuses on an Imperial Guard veteran, Reagan Antigone, who is being honoured for his actions in a long-ago battle against the forces of Chaos. But when his old comrade, a Dark Angels Space Marine, appears for the celebration, Antigone’s account of the victory is called into question. As is usual with the enigmatic Dark Angels, not all is as it seems, and shadowy figures from the past come back to haunt the veteran Guardsman.
