Why is this on my list? The entry point into All New Marvel Now with lead in stories of lots of new, upcoming books. Worth the extra pricetag? We’ll see. I may wait until it goes down in price and snap it up on Comixology though.

ALL NEW X-FACTOR #1

All New X-Factor #1

Story: Peter David | Art: Carmine Di Giandomenico | Cover: Jared K. Fletcher | Price: $3.99

“NOT BRAND X” Part 1

X-FACTOR IS BACK…LIKE NEVER BEFORE! Serval Industries, one of the world’s most trusted names in electronics and leader in cutting-edge internet and weapons technology, has just unveiled their newest contribution to society…the All-New X-Factor. Led by mutant mistress of magnetism, Polaris, the team uses its corporate backing for the betterment of society. With her half-brother Quicksilver, notorious thief, Gambit, and more by her side, can Polaris trust that her corporate masters really have good intentions?

Why is this on my list? Peter David’s X-Factor series was highly acclaimed by those who read it and its something that I always looked to jump into at some point but never had the chance. However, there’s no way I’m not missing out on All New X-Factor, so this is one of the All New Marvel Now books that is going to be added to my pull for sure.

AVENGERS A.I. #8.NOW

Avengers A.I. #8

Fight alongside the Avengers Empire on the edge of a black hole! Witness Dimitrios’ final gambit against all of creation! Artificial intelligence never dies, it just gets SMARTER! Upgrade or die! Are you human or machine? The time to decide is NOW!

Why is this on my list? Avengers A.I. has a pretty interesting list of team members and the guest apperanceof the Uncanny Avengers as well as the added bonus of $2.99 make this book something to check out.

AVENGERS WORLD #1

Avengers World #1

Story: Jonathan Hickman | Art: Stefano Caselli | Cover: John Cassaday | Price: $3.99

‘TROUBLE MAP’ Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have returned from the stars– but on the world they left behind, new threats have emerged, and The Avengers will be tested like never before. In one cataclysmic day, the face of the Marvel Universe will change forever– and the fight for Earth’s future will begin. A globe-spanning epic of empires and armies, and the brave few who stand between them and us.

Why is this on my list? The flagship book of All New Marvel Now! is a Jonathan Hickman read that double ships in its first month at the cost of the main Avengers title going down to one book per month. Knowing Hickman though you’ll want to be on board this as well as Avengers and New Avengers but with an interesting premise a cool cover (plus some A-List talent) that’s enough to sell me on this book.

BLACK WIDOW #1

Black Widow #1

Story: Nathan Edmondson | Art: Phil Noto | Cover: Phil Noto | Price: $3.99

‘The Finely Woven Thread’ You’ve seen Black Widow as an Avenger and even an Agent of Shield. But on her own time she searches for atonement for her past as a KGB assassin-in ways of which those teams just wouldn’t approve. From the darkest corners of the Marvel Universe, Nathan Edmonson (Who is Jake Ellis?) and Phil Noto (Thunderbolts, X-23) bring you a new ongoing series as gorgeous and mysterious as Nastasha Romanov herself!

Why is this on my list? Long overdue, we finally get to see a Black Widow series and this, like All New X-Factor – is going to be a must buy for me even though I have no experience with the creative teams, with an interesting character and a solid premise the only downer here is the $3.99 pricetag.

REVOLUTIONARY WAR: ALPHA #1

Revolutionary War #1

Story: Andy Lanning | Art: Richard Elson | Cover: Mark Brooks | Price: $3.99

Part 1 of “Revolutionary War”

  • Marvel UK’s greatest heroes come together for the first time in 20 years to face a threat that could destroy the world.

  • Featuring Captain Britain, Pete Wisdom, Death’s Head II, Motormouth and Killpower, the Warheads and a host of British heroes.

Why is this on my list? Marvel UK returns with Andy Lanning and Revolutionary War and any Marvel Comic with its focus on UK heroes is going to be a must buy for me, and whilst yes it may be $3.99 Revolutionary War could be the epic that sees the return of Marvel UK and with Andy Lanning on board I can’t wait to get stuck into this one. Going to be a must buy.

YOUNG AVENGERS #15

Young Avengers #15

Story: Kieron Gillen | Art: Various | Cover Art: Jamie McKelvie | Price: $2.99

  • After the saving the world, there’s the after party. And after the party, it’s the hotel lobby. And around issue 15, we have to clear the lobby and then head to our rooms and do something jolly rude.
  •  MIC-DROP!

Why is this on my list? The finale of Young Avengers. It’s been a good ride, and this series is one of my favourites of Marvel so far, coming second behind Hawkeye and Daredevil, but is easily the strongest of titles that were launched as part of Marvel Now!. Can’t wait – but it’ll be sad to see it go.

15 JANUARY

ALL NEW X-MEN #21

All New X-Men #21

Story: Brian Michael Bendis | Art: Brandon Peterson | Cover: Stuart Immonen | Price: $3.99

  •  X-23 is back, joining the ALL-NEW X-MEN and kissing Cyclops? What does this mean to Jean Grey?
  •  Jean and X-23 are forced to team up against a mysterious force, so she better figure it out.

Why is this on my list? After the appalling last issue, I’m starting to lose my faith more and more with All New X-Men. I’ve already dropped Uncanny X-Men from my pull but with the Trial of Jean Grey just one issue away this is going to remain on there for now.

AMAZING X-MEN #3

Amazing X-Men #3

Story: Jason Aaron | Art: Ed McGuinness | Cover: Ed McGuinness | Price: $3.99

BEAST UNLEASHED! Dr. McCoy is pushed over the edge and gives into his savage side like never before!

The X-Men, split between heaven and hell, are in way over their heads!

Can they get to Nightcrawler before evil Azazel does?

Why is this on my list? Currently the best X-Book that I’m following having dropped X-Men and Uncanny X-Men due to budget reasons and decreasing in quality, Amazing X-Men is only two issues in and here comes the third. The team involved in this series is fun and a Beast-centric issue is always welcomed. Cannot wait.

DAREDEVIL #35

Daredevil #35

Story: Mark Waid | Art: Chris Samnee | Cover: Chris Samnee | Price: $2.99

Daredevil pulls his allies together to make an all-out assault on the Sons of the Serpent before they can infest the rest of the nation–but he’s about to find out just how blind justice can be!

PLUS…You’ve demanded it! An appearance by Elektra that sets the stage for a huge change in Matt’s life!

Why is this on my list? One of the last remaining Daredevil issues before the book is relaunched and goes up to $3.99 with the same creative team, it’ll be interesting to see how Waid and Samnee bring this Volume to a close. Looking forward to it, but dreading the end all the same.

REVOLUTIONARY WAR: DARK ANGEL #1

Revolutionary War #2

Story: Kieron Gillen | Art: Dietrich Smith | Cover: Mark Brooks | Price: $3.99

Part 2 of ‘Revolutionary War’

Why is this on my list? More Revolutionary War shenanigans written this time by Kieron Gillen. Whilst Gillen’s a hit or miss writer (Young Avengers and Iron Man have been among my favourite and least favourite of Marvel Now! respectivley) I have high hopes for this issue and am looking forward to see it continues.

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #25

Superior Spider-Man #25

Story: Dan Slott | Art: Humberto Ramos | Cover: Humberto Ramos | Price: $4.50

Special super-sized 25th issue!

Otto Octavius, the Superior Spider-Man, in a life-or-death struggle against the original Superior Venom!

Plus: With one last goblin on his side, the Goblin King’s court is now complete!

 Guest starring: The Avengers!

Why is this on my list? I’m not a huge fan of the cover but Slott is delivering an awesome run on Superior Spider-Man and I can’t wait to see where he takes the reader next. Certainly high on my must-read list and among my Top 5 current favourite books at Marvel.

THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #17

Thor God of Thunder #17

Story: Jason Aaron | Art: Ron Garney | Cover: Esad Ribic | Price: $3.99

THE GRAND FINALE OF THE ACCURSED! Thor’s desperate tour of the Nine Realms brings him to Midgard, to Earth, where he makes his final stand against Malekith and the dark forces of the Wild Hunt. But what has become of Thor’s newest compatriots, the League of Realms? Who stands revealed as the traitor in their midst? And what bloody victory has Malekith already won?

Why is this on my list? Ron Garney’s last issue with artistic duties wraps up the current arc, and it’s safe to say that  I haven’t been digging the Accursed Arc as much as I would have if Ribic had remained on the book but it’s been strong nonetheless and I’m hoping that we can get a better artist next time round.

THUNDERBOLTS #20.NOW

Thunderbolts #20

Story: Charles Soule | Art: Carlos Barberi | Cover: Julian Totino Tedesco | Price: $2.99

NO MERCY’ Part 1

  • GHOST RIDER JOINS THE THUNDERBOLTS! General Ross’s Thunderbolts were brought together to clean up problems no one else could . . . but what about when the problem is ON the team?
  • The seemingly all-powerful madwoman called Mercy has gone too far, slaughtering innocent people to fulfill her twisted mission of mercy.
  • Who can the team turn to to help take down this powerhouse? How about Johnny Blaze, the original Ghost Rider?
  • Can he save the team before it all goes to hell? Or will he lead them there?

Why is this on my list? Soule is writing a million books at the moment and all of them that I’ve read so far (Superman/Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing Red Lanterns) have been excellent, so I’m looking forward to seeing where he can take the Thunderbolts particularly with the inclusion of Ghost Rider. Hoping for good things here.

22 JANUARY

ALL NEW INVADERS #1

All New Invaders #1

Story: James Robinson | Art: Steve Pugh | Cover: Mukesh Singh | Price: $3.99

“GODS AND SOLDIERS” PART ONE

Eisner Award winner James Robinson (STARMAN, EARTH 2) returns to MARVEL, uniting with Steve Pugh (ANIMAL MAN, HOTWIRE, GEN-X) to create a unique, modern day take on the INVADERS.

The KREE EMPIRE intends to conquer the universe using a weapon that will grant them an army of NORSE GODS.

It falls to four heroes united by their past-CAPTAIN AMERICA, NAMOR, THE ORIGINAL HUMAN TORCH and the WINTER SOLDIER-who must now face the future and wage war against the Kree to save Earth.

Why is this on my list? James Robinson is always a must-read writer for me and with a team-up of Captain America, Namor, The Original Human Torch and the Winter Soldier this makes this book a must read. Looking forward to this one for sure.

ALL NEW X-FACTOR #2

All New X-Factor #1

Story: Peter David | Art: Carmine Di Giandomencio | Cover: Jared K. Fletcher | Price: $3.99

“NOT BRAND X” Part 2

X-FACTOR IS BACK…LIKE NEVER BEFORE! Serval Industries, one of the world’s most trusted names in electronics and leader in cutting-edge internet and weapons technology, has just unveiled their newest contribution to society…the All-New X-Factor. Led by mutant mistress of magnetism, Polaris, the team uses its corporate backing for the betterment of society. With her half-brother Quicksilver, notorious thief, Gambit, and more by her side, can Polaris trust that her corporate masters really have good intentions?

Why is this on my list? Two All New X-Factor issues in one month? Hell yeah!

ALL NEW X-MEN #22.NOW

All New X-Men #22

Story: Brian Michael Bendis | Art: Stuart Immonen | Cover: Stuart Immonen | Price: $3.99

‘The Trial of Jean Grey’

Now it’s up to the rest of the All-New X-Men and the Guardians of the Galaxy to save Jean Grey from twisted intergalactic justice! Don’t miss two of Marvel’s biggest franchises crossing over for the first time!

Why is this on my list? Look how awesome that cover art is. I’m a lot more hyped up for the Trial of Jean Grey than I have been any other Bendis arcs so I’m hoping that this doesn’t disappoint.

AVENGERS #25

Avengers #25

THE MIRROR”

It worked for the X-Men! Would we be so crass as to do it again? Introducing the ALL-NEW AVENGERS!

And we’ve been good up till now, but this issue, an Avenger dies.

Why is this on my list? The death of an Avenger and the All New Avengers is enough to sell me on this given the excellent work Hickman’s been doing so far. Looking forward to more.

  •  Hey not for nothin’ but you guys gotta try these Cronuts!
